Appearing a whopping seven times in our top 500 most borrowed titles this year list, author James Patterson is no surprise appearance. You may remember a previous blog post about him where he had become the most published author of all time. Alex Cross, Run, currently his most popular title, is sitting at number 2 with 150 checkouts this year. Other recent work Private Berlin and Twelfth River come in an numbers eight and nine.
Coveted first place though, is the ever popular Michael C0nnelly with The Drop, a book that is three years old, but is still lending very heavily with 153 checkouts.
David Baldacci, Lee Child, Dan Brown and Maeve Binchy fill out the rest of the top ten.
At the other end of the list, number 500 is Aussie author Caroline Overington’s, I came to say goodbye.
You’d be forgiven thinking it was JK Rowling, or even Stephenie Meyer of late, but American thriller writer James Patterson takes the crown as the world’s best-selling author of the past 20 years. A massive one in seventeen books sold in the US is a Patterson novel or collaboration, he even holds a Guinness world record for largest number of New York Times bestsellers for a single author, which currently stands at 48.
Best known for his Alex Cross series of detective thrillers, Patterson also penned the Women’s Murder Club, Daniel X, and Maximum Ride series of books, taking his total to 65 novels. Several of his books have been made into films. The next Alex Cross novel Cross Fire is due for release in November, and the next Women’s Murder Club title 9th Judgment is due out in the next few weeks.
