It’s clean up week this week across Council, and  everyone is participating.  While going through old files in the filing cabinet  I found this visual representation of library statistics that plots the changes in loans, borrowers, staffing and total book stock from 1975 through to 1985.

Here are some statistics about the library service as it was in 1975 from the graph and statistics we collected at the end of the previous financial year 08/09: 

Book stock  1975: 27,787     2009: 141, 477

Active borrowers  1975:  2713     2009: 38,190

Loans  1975:  11138     2009: 1,195,086

What a difference!
