Meet Casper the barn owl and other Aussie critters

Wednesday saw Brett from Cleland Wildlife park visit as part of the Library’s school holiday program.

Brett ran a couple of workshops with children on the benefits of providing safe habitats in our yards for native animals, outlining the dangers that household pets, and removal of trees and hollows, pose to native critters.

To illustrate this, he brought four different animals from Cleland Wildlife park, including a ringtail possum, a bearded dragon, an olive python and a barn owl named Casper.

Children were able to touch some of the animals, learning how the scales on a lizard’s back help against predators, and how possum fur is coloured to protect against extremes of heat and cold.
