The Dragon is renewed

Regular visitors to the youth area of the Library will have seen the pillar painted with a purple dragon, originally designed by our former Childrens and Youth Services Officer, Pam.

Several walls in the Library have been given a fresh coat of paint recently, as part of routine maintenance.

Artist Nicky King has been in the Library for the last two days to give the Dragon a refresher, too, and make sure he lives on.

Check out the finished product on your next visit.

  1. The dragon looks fantastic. I must say I am a regular visitor to the library and hadn’t noticed him before. I guess there is always something new at the library to look at.

Perhaps you could encourage young readers to read the How to Train Your Dragon Series by Cressida Cowell (ages 10+) by displaying the books around the reinvigorated dragon. You may even consider timing this around the release of the 3D movie of the same title due for release in Australia 25 March 2010. Perhaps this will be a great theme for inclusion in the 1st children’s school holiday program for the year.

  2. Glad to hear that you feel so positive about our dragon – he (or she!) really does look great. Great suggestion about the Cressida Cowell books – we actually had a dragon theme during our 2009 school holiday programme and so probably won’t repeat it quite so quickly. But thanks for the idea. We do have some more copies of these books coming in soon and your idea about displaying them near the pillar is something we’ll definitely take on board. Thanks again for your useful and interesting comments.
