The award winning creator of the DISCWORLD and one of my favourite authors was knighted recently for ‘services to literature’.
Pratchett has been a published author since 1971 and created the now legendary DISCWORLD series in 1983 with the release of The Colour of Magic. Now, 26 years later, with the release of Unseen Academicals the DISCWORLD series spans 37 books as well as four “mapps”, three science books, two quiz books, a diary and even a cook book.
The DISCWORLD has also been adapted into two animated series based on adaptions of the books Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters and live action films of Hogfather and The Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic. A third film (Going Postal) is currently in production and scheduled for release over the Easter 2010 weekend.
In December of 2007, Pratchett announced that he had been diagnosed with a very rare form of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, but says he still has as few books left in him.
The library holds more than 70 books, DVDs and Spoken Word books by Pratchett. Why not pick one up and join in the fun.
